Android Fonts: How to Change Font Style on Any Android Phone

Android fonts are not the same on every phone. Google's own Android uses the Roboto font family, but Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, Vivo and OnePlus add their own fonts and settings on top. That is why the steps to change phone font style depend on your brand.

This guide shows where the font settings usually are, what you can and cannot change, how to stay safe with TTF files, and how to get stylish text for Instagram or games without changing any system font.

The Default Android Font: Roboto

Roboto is the main Android system font. Google made it for Android, and it is free and open source, so you can also use it in documents and websites. Newer Google phones and apps also use Google's own brand fonts in some places. Read the full story on our Roboto font page.

Phone brands often replace Roboto with their own font. For example, many OnePlus phones use OnePlus Slate, the brand's own font. People compare OnePlus Slate font vs Roboto because they look close: both are clean sans serifs, and Slate has its own small shape differences.

How to Change Font Style on Android by Brand

Menu names change with each update and model, so treat these as a guide. If you cannot find it, open Settings and search for "font".

BrandWhere to look
SamsungSettings, then Display, then Font size and style
Xiaomi, Redmi, PocoThe Themes app, then the Fonts section
Oppo, Realme, VivoSettings, then Display, or the Themes app (varies by model and version)
OnePlusSettings, then Display, then Font
Google Pixel and stock AndroidSettings, then Display; mainly font size, not style

On some brands, extra fonts come from the brand's own theme store. Some are free and some are paid.

Samsung Fonts

Samsung phones have had a font style option for many years. Older Galaxy phones, like the J7 Prime and J2 Prime era, came with fun built-in Samsung fonts such as Cool Jazz, Choco Cooky and Rosemary. Newer models running One UI still have Font size and style in Display settings, and you may find more fonts in the Galaxy Store. What you see depends on the model, region and software version.

Avoid "samsung fonts apk" files from random websites. They can carry malware, and newer software may not accept them anyway.

Font Oppo, Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi and OnePlus

  • Oppo and Realme: look in Settings, then Display, or in the Themes app. Some models offer only a few styles; others offer downloadable ones. Ignore "oppo font apk" downloads from unknown sites.
  • Vivo: check the Themes or i Theme app and Display settings.
  • Xiaomi and Redmi: fonts live in the Themes app. If you only want bigger text, you can adjust font size in Display settings.
  • OnePlus: the OnePlus font options are under Display. The oneplus slate font is the default on many models.

Android Fonts List: What Comes With Most Phones

The exact android fonts list depends on the phone, but most Android phones include:

  • Roboto for English and other Latin-script languages.
  • Noto fonts for many world scripts, including Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati and Arabic. That is why Indian languages show correctly on most phones.
  • Noto Color Emoji on many phones for emoji.
  • A monospace and a serif font for apps that ask for them.
  • The brand's own font, if the maker adds one.

Need Arabic fonts for Android or Urdu Nastaleeq? Arabic script already shows on most phones. For a different design, check your theme store, or use a design app that lets you import a font. See Arabic fonts.

TTF Fonts on Android: What Works (TTF Android Tips)

A font file usually ends in .ttf or .otf. You can download free TTF fonts legally from Google Fonts, but on most phones you cannot set a TTF as the system font. Here is what does work:

  • Design and photo apps that let you add a custom font. You import the TTF inside the app.
  • Office and document apps that support custom fonts on some phones.
  • The brand's theme store, which installs fonts the safe way.

For free, legal files, see our free font download guide. For Hindi fonts, see Hindi font download.

iPhone Font Style and San Francisco Pro for Android

Many people want the i phone font style on Android. The iPhone system font is San Francisco (SF Pro), made by Apple. Apple licenses it for designing apps for Apple devices, so a "San Francisco Pro font for Android" download is not a legal way to get it. Free look-alikes such as Inter give a very similar clean feel in design apps. Read more on SF Pro font and iPhone font.

Magisk Font Modules and Root: A Warning

You may see guides for a magisk font module to change every font on a rooted phone. Rooting can void your warranty, break banking and payment apps, stop updates and even make the phone fail to start. A bad font module can cause boot loops. We do not recommend it for normal users, and we do not share module or APK links.
