What Is the Manrope Font?

Manrope is an open-source sans serif designed by Mikhail Sharanda. It mixes ideas from geometric fonts (round, even shapes) with the practical spacing of grotesque fonts, so it looks stylish in headlines but stays readable in small app text.

It has a fairly large x-height, which means small letters are tall compared to capitals. That helps on phones. Numbers are clear and tidy, which is one reason the font is popular in banking and payment apps, where people read prices and balances all day.

Manrope Font Specimen: Weights and Variable Font

The Manrope font specimen on Google Fonts shows weights from Extra Light to Extra Bold. Manrope is also a variable font. Instead of one file per weight, a single file holds the full range, and you can pick any weight in between, like 550 or 650.

WeightGood for
Extra Light, LightLarge, airy headlines
RegularBody text and paragraphs
Medium, Semi BoldButtons, menus, labels
Bold, Extra BoldHeadings, prices, key numbers

There is no separate italic family, so for emphasis most designers use a heavier weight instead.

Manrope is free under the SIL Open Font License. You can use it in personal and commercial work, including logos, apps and websites.

The safest Manrope font free download is the Google Fonts Manrope font page. Click the download button to get a zip with the variable font and the static weights. No account is needed. Avoid unknown download sites that rename or repackage the files. See our Google Fonts guide for tips on finding and using other free fonts.

How to Install and Use Manrope

  1. Unzip the Manrope font download.
  2. Windows: right-click the .ttf files and choose Install. Mac: open them in Font Book and click Install.
  3. Older apps may not handle variable fonts well. If the weight list looks odd, install the static files from the "static" folder instead.
  4. In Figma and Canva, search "Manrope" in the font menu; it is often already there.
  5. On a website, load it from Google Fonts and use font-family: 'Manrope', sans-serif; with font-weight values from 200 to 800.

Best Uses for Manrope

Great for: fintech and banking apps, SaaS dashboards, startup landing pages, pitch decks, portfolios and product mockups. The clear numbers and tall lowercase letters keep small text easy to read.

Less ideal for: long printed books, where a serif is calmer on paper, or playful kids' designs, where a rounded font like Nunito feels warmer. For a wedding card or luxury brand, a high-contrast serif will usually look better.

Tip: Manrope looks best with generous spacing. Give buttons enough padding and keep body text at a comfortable size, around 16 px on the web.

Manrope vs Gilroy, Inter and Poppins

Manrope is often used as a free stand-in for Gilroy, a paid geometric sans serif. They are not identical, but both have round letters and a clean tech feel.

  • Inter: more neutral and built for small UI text. Pick Inter for dense dashboards.
  • Poppins: more perfectly geometric and supports Devanagari, useful for Hindi and English on one page.
  • Satoshi: another modern favourite with a similar startup look.
  • Nunito: rounded and softer, better for kids and education.

A simple pairing: Manrope for headings and Inter for body text, or Manrope with a serif like Playfair Display for an editorial feel. Browse more in our popular fonts hub.
