Nunito Font: Free Download, Preview and Alternatives

What Is the Nunito Font?

Nunito is a well-balanced sans serif with rounded ends on its strokes. It was first created by Vernon Adams as a rounded display font, and the family was later expanded with more weights so it can also be used for normal text.

The rounded terminals are the main thing you notice. Letters like a, t and r end in soft curves instead of sharp cuts. This gives the text a warm, approachable feel. At the same time the shapes are simple and even, so Nunito stays easy to read on phone screens.

The Nunito font family comes in many weights, from light to black, with matching italics. The Nunito light font looks airy in big headlines, the regular and semi-bold weights work for paragraphs, and the Nunito bold font is great for buttons, app headings and kids' book titles.

Nunito vs Nunito Sans Font

The Nunito Sans font is the companion family. It shares the same basic structure as Nunito, but the stroke ends are cut straight instead of rounded. That makes it look a little more serious and businesslike.

A common trick is to use rounded Nunito for headings and Nunito Sans for body text. They match in size and spacing, so the page still looks like one family.

Nunito Sans Font Pairing Ideas

For Nunito Sans font pairing, the easiest choice is the one above: rounded Nunito for headings and Nunito Sans for body text. If you want more contrast, try these:

• Merriweather or Lora + Nunito Sans: a readable serif for headings over clean body text, good for blogs and school websites.
• Playfair Display + Nunito Sans: an elegant look for invitations, food menus and lifestyle brands.
• Montserrat + Nunito Sans: bold geometric headings for a modern startup page.

Stick to two families per design so the page stays tidy.
