The Pacifico Font Story: 1950s Surf Culture
Pacifico was designed by Vernon Adams, a type designer who made several popular free fonts for Google Fonts. He took inspiration from American surf culture of the 1950s: hand-painted surfboard shop signs, beach posters and the easy-going lettering of that era. The name itself points to the Pacific Ocean.
That background explains the mood. Pacifico does not try to look formal or perfect. It looks like a confident brush stroke made by someone having fun.
Pacifico Font Handwriting Style Explained
The Pacifico font style is a brush script, which is a type of handwriting style made with a thick brush instead of a pen. Here is what defines it:
- Very thick strokes with soft, rounded ends, so it stays bold even at medium sizes.
- Connected lowercase letters that flow into each other like quick lettering.
- Big, bouncy capitals that make a name or brand word pop.
- A single weight. Pacifico comes only in Regular. Its heaviness is built in.
Compared with Great Vibes, which is thin and formal, Pacifico is chunky and casual. Compared with Lobster, it is rounder and more playful, less like an old signboard.

Common questions
Is the Pacifico font free for commercial use?
Yes. Pacifico uses the SIL Open Font License, so logos, merchandise, client designs and videos are all fine. Just do not sell the font file on its own.
Is Pacifico available on Google Fonts?

Who designed the Pacifico font?
Vernon Adams designed Pacifico, inspired by 1950s American surf culture and its hand-painted signs.

Does Pacifico have a bold version?
No, it comes in one Regular weight that is already very thick. If you need a different weight range, a family like Lobster Two offers regular and bold.
