Google Fonts is a free library of open-source fonts at fonts.google.com, run by Google, that anyone can use for school projects, posters, apps and client websites. Most fonts there use the SIL Open Font License, which means you can use them for personal and commercial work without paying.
This guide explains how to download a Google font family, how to use it in Word, Canva, Google Docs and on a website, where to find Hindi, Marathi and Telugu fonts, and which Google font pairings look good together. We are an independent site and are not linked to Google.

What Is Google Fonts?
The Google Fonts website is fonts.google.com. Whether you search "fonts google", "googlefonts" or "Google Fonts free", you reach the same site. Google Fonts is a website and font service where you can browse, test and download over a thousand font families for free. You can type your own words in the preview, change the size and see every weight before you pick one. The fonts are open source, so designers, students and companies all use them freely. All Google Fonts free fonts can be used in commercial work too.
A "Google font family" simply means one font with all its styles, like Thin, Regular, Bold and Italic. Many families are also variable fonts, so a single file covers every weight in between. The same site also offers free icons (Material Symbols), which is what people mean when they search for Google Fonts icons.
Google Fonts Download: How to Download and Install
- Go to fonts.google.com and search for a font, for example Poppins.
- Open the font page and click Get font.
- Click Download all to get a zip file with the whole family.
- Unzip the file.
- Windows: select the .ttf files, right-click and choose Install. Mac: double-click a file and click Install Font.
After installing, the font shows up in Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Illustrator and other desktop apps. So yes, you can use a Google font in Adobe apps: just install it on your computer first. The Google fonts free download needs no account, and it is always safer than random font sites that add ads or old files.
How to Use a Google Font in Canva, Google Docs and Websites
- Canva: many Google fonts like Montserrat, Poppins and Playfair Display are already in Canva's font menu. Just search the name.
- Google Docs and Slides: open the font menu, click More fonts, search the name and add it. No download needed.
- Websites: on the font page, click Get font, then get the embed code and paste the link in your page head. That link loads a stylesheet from fonts.googleapis.com, which is why developers search for "fonts googleapis" when they set it up. Or download the files and self-host them. Then use CSS like
font-family: 'Inter', sans-serif;. - Apps: developers often load Google fonts through packages, for example the google_fonts package in Flutter.
Google Fonts for Hindi, Marathi, Telugu and Other Indian Languages
Use the language filter on Google Fonts to see only fonts that support a script. Pick Devanagari for Hindi and Marathi, or Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Bengali and others. Then type a word in that script in the preview box to check it.
- Google fonts Hindi and Marathi (Devanagari): Poppins, Mukta, Hind, Noto Sans Devanagari, Baloo 2, Kalam, Rozha One, Tiro Devanagari Marathi.
- Google fonts Telugu: Noto Sans Telugu, Ramabhadra, Mandali, NTR, Gurajada.
These are real fonts for designs and documents. For styled text in an Instagram bio or WhatsApp status, see our Hindi font style and Marathi font style tools instead. For typing in older Hindi fonts, see Mangal font.
Best Google Fonts With Their Own Guides
Want details on a single font? These pages cover history, weights, licence and pairings:
- Montserrat: bold geometric sans for titles and logos. Google Fonts Montserrat comes in weights from Thin to Black.
- Poppins: the Poppins Google font is a friendly round sans that also supports Devanagari.
- Inter: made for screens, great for apps and dashboards.
- Roboto: the familiar Android-style sans.
- Bebas Neue and Anton: tall, strong fonts for thumbnails and posters.
- Cinzel, Playfair Display and Garamond: elegant serifs for invitations and books. The Playfair Display font on Google Fonts is a top pick for wedding cards, and the Cormorant Garamond font on Google Fonts is a lighter, fashion-style option.
For a bigger picture of font types, read our popular fonts guide.
Wide Google Fonts for Logos and Headings
Wide Google Fonts stretch each letter sideways, which gives a bold, techy or luxury look in short words. Try these free picks:
- Michroma and Syncopate: wide, futuristic capitals for tech and car brands.
- Krona One: heavy and wide, great for posters.
- Unbounded: rounded wide letters for modern brands and thumbnails.
- Archivo: has a width setting, so you can choose wider styles in the same family.
Use wide fonts for one or two words only. Long sentences in a wide font are hard to read. For logo advice, see our logo fonts guide.
Google Sans Font: Can You Download It?
Google Sans is Google's own brand font, used in its apps and products. People also ask for the Product Sans Google font, the earlier name of Google's logo-style typeface. Google Sans is generally not offered as a normal download in the Google Fonts library, so be careful with sites that claim a "Google Sans font download", since those files may be unofficial. The same caution applies to Product Sans. If you want a similar clean, round look, try free options like DM Sans, Outfit or Poppins.
