A graffiti font gives your text the bold, sprayed and hand-drawn look of street art. It works great for posters, T-shirts, YouTube thumbnails, gaming logos and Instagram posts.
This guide covers the main graffiti font styles (tags, bubble letters, block letters and wildstyle), free graffiti fonts on Google Fonts, simple tips to draw your own graffiti letters, and how to get a graffiti-style look in copy-paste text. Graffiti Font Styles Explained
Graffiti lettering has a few main styles. Knowing them helps you pick the right graffiti font for your design.
| Style | How it looks | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Tag | Fast, one-line signature, thin marker strokes | Name logos, stickers, signatures |
| Throw-up (bubble) | Round, puffy letters with a thick outline | Posters, kids' events, fun thumbnails |
| Block letters | Big, straight, easy to read from far | Banners, T-shirts, event titles |
| Wildstyle | Letters twisted together with arrows and spikes | Art pieces, album-style covers |
Tag fonts look like a quick marker signature, while wildstyle graffiti fonts are the hardest to read. For most designs, block or bubble graffiti fonts are the safest pick because people can still read the words.
Best Free Graffiti Font Picks
- Permanent Marker: looks hand-written with a thick marker. Great for tag-style names and thumbnails.
- Sedgwick Ave and Sedgwick Ave Display: handstyle graffiti lettering. The Display version is bolder for headings.
- Rubik Spray Paint: a spray-can texture on clean letters.
- Rubik Wet Paint: a drippy graffiti font look for spooky or messy designs.
- Rubik Bubbles: puffy letters for a bubble graffiti font feel.
- Bungee and Bungee Shade: strong block letters, like signs painted on a wall.
All of these are free on fonts.google.com. You will find more graffiti font styles free there and on other legal free font sites. Avoid packs that offer paid graffiti fonts for free, because those files are often shared without permission. Our free font download page lists safe sources.
Using Graffiti Fonts in Posters, T-Shirts and Thumbnails
- Keep it short. A graffiti font works best for one to four words: a name, a title or a slogan.
- Add an outline and a shadow. Real graffiti uses a thick outline, a 3D shadow and bright fill colours. Most apps like Canva or PixelLab let you add a stroke and shadow.
- Pair with a plain font. Put details like date, price or link in a clean sans serif such as Montserrat. See our logo fonts guide for more pairing ideas.
- Use a wall texture. A brick or concrete background makes graffiti letters look real.
- Check at small size. YouTube thumbnails show small on phones, so bold block styles read better than thin tags.
How to Draw Graffiti Letters Step by Step
Lettering graffiti fonts by hand is the best way to learn. If you want your own graffiti letters font or alphabet, practise on paper first:
- Write the word in simple capitals with space between the letters.
- Draw a thick shape around each letter to make it bold. Round the corners for bubble letters, keep them sharp for block letters.
- Let the letters overlap a little so the word feels like one piece.
- Add a 3D shadow on one side, always the same side.
- Add extras like arrows, drips, stars or shine marks. Do not add so much that the word becomes hard to read.
- Colour it in with a gradient fill and a dark outline.
For bubble letters you can copy, try our bubble font tool, and see our alphabet fonts page for A to Z letter styles.
Graffiti Text Generator and Copy-Paste Style
A real graffiti font only works inside a design app. If you want a graffiti-like name for Instagram, a game or a bio, use copy-paste Unicode text instead. Unicode has no true graffiti alphabet, but bold, bubble, block and glitch styles give a similar street feel. Try our cool fonts and glitch text tools as a graffiti text generator for captions and names.
Some people search for car tag fonts, dog tag fonts or Instagram tag fonts. Those are different: car number plates and dog tags use plain stamped letters, often like our typewriter font styles, not street graffiti.
Respect the Wall
Graffiti is art, but painting on walls, trains or shops without permission is illegal in most places and can bring fines. Practise in a sketchbook, on paper boards or digitally, and paint only on legal walls or with the owner's permission. Many cities have legal walls and street art events where you can paint openly.
Common questions
What is the best free graffiti font?
Permanent Marker is a great all-rounder for a tag look. For heavier styles, try Sedgwick Ave Display, Rubik Spray Paint or Bungee. All are free on Google Fonts.
Is there a free graffiti font generator?
For designs, type your text in a design app and pick a free graffiti font. For copy-paste text in bios and games, our cool fonts and bubble font tools work as a quick graffiti text generator.
Which graffiti font looks like bubble letters?
Rubik Bubbles gives a puffy bubble graffiti font look. You can also add a thick outline and shadow to any rounded bold font to get a throw-up style.
What is wildstyle graffiti?
Wildstyle is a complex graffiti style where letters twist, connect and get arrows and spikes. It looks amazing but is hard to read, so it suits art pieces more than posters with important info.
Can I use graffiti fonts on T-shirts I sell?
Fonts under the SIL Open Font License, like the Google Fonts listed here, can be used for commercial designs such as T-shirts. For fonts from other sites, read the licence first.
How can I make my own graffiti alphabet fonts?
Draw each letter A to Z on paper in the same style, then scan them. Font maker apps and websites can turn your drawings into a font file you can type with.
